Welcome to ICEM 2006 !

 I am very pleased to inform you of ICEM 2006, the International Conference on Experimental Mechanics, which will be held from September 27th to September 29th, 2006 at Hyatt Regency, Jeju, Korea.

ICEM 2006 is the fifth Asian Conference on Experimental Mechanics (ACEM5) series, which has taken place once a year since 2002. During the last 4 years of ICEM, I have witnessed a dramatic surge of activities in research and development in the field of Experimental Mechanics in the Asia.

In the fifth Asian Conference on Experiment Mechanics, our focus is in the field of experimental mechanics, which is burgeoning with advances in technology, the increasing need for precise measurement in frequently hostile environments, and on novel materials and biological tissues. While optical techniques had been predominantly preferred, particularly in the field of bio-engineering, other mature methods are also being exploited in tandem with the growth in micro- and nano-manufacturing. This conference will provide an international forum to present and discuss significant progresses in research, development, and application of these areas.

As holding an international conference of such scale takes much effort. I would like to express my gratitude to all my colleagues who have contributed to the success of the conference.

I hope this conference will be an informative and enjoyable experience.  Furthermore, I also hope that you would have a chance to take pleasure here as Jeju offers a beautiful setting where you can spend leisurely time as well.
