Change in Student Classification and Affiliated Organization

Submission Period

Within 4 weeks of the reason for change (employment date and etc.).

Application Procedure

  • Change in Classification
    • Apply on the Academic System(Uploading the application form approved by your guarantor is mandatory) → Obtain approval(recommendation) of department academic advisor → Obtain approval of the head/chief of department/program → Repayment of benefit costs from the affiliated organization → Be checked by responsible administrative staff → submit it online to the Academic Registrar’s Team on the Academic System → approve change in student classification → Notify the relevant department/major.
  • Change in Affiliated Organization
    • Apply on the Academic System(Uploading the application form approved by your guarantor is mandatory) → Obtain approval(recommendation) of department academic advisor → Obtain approval of the head/chief of department/program → → submit it online to the Academic Registrar’s Team on the Academic System → Approved change in affiliated organization → Notify the relevant department/major.

Duties and Limitations of Change in Student Classification

  • A general scholarship student may not change to a government scholarship student.
  • A KAIST scholarship student may not change to a government scholarship student, except in the case of the depletion of research funds and other unavoidable circumstances.
  • If a government scholarship student and KAIST scholarship students becomes employed, or receives financial support on the premise of future employment, the student must change their classification and be classified as a general scholarship student.

Benefit Cost

  • Repayment of benefit costs must be paid prior to the change in classification of the student by the affiliated organization, if the student is changing from a government or KAIST scholarship student to a general scholarship student.
  • Repayment of benefit costs must be paid prior to the change in classification if a government scholarship student wishes to change their classification to a KAIST scholarship student.
  • Repayment of benefit costs is exempt if the government scholarship student participating in a related education program wishes to change their classification to a KAIST scholarship student.
  • If a student is changing from a KAIST scholarship student to a general scholarship student, the student must repay all expenses sponsored by KAIST before the change in classification.
  • Changes related to the regulations set forth in Section 1, 2, and 3, will require the student to repay all benefit costs relevant to their current course of study.

  • Documents verifying selection as a recipient of financial aid, and employment/recruitment

Change in Affiliated Organization
  • Change in Affiliated Organization Form
  • Transfer Agreement Form or documents to confirm resignation
  • Written Oath
  • Recommendation of Studies
  • Proof of Employment
  • Statement of Reason (If handled within 4 weeks, statement of reasons does not need to be submitted)
