Tuition Bills and Tuition Payment Procedure(Applicable to All Students)

[Note] All Incoming freshmen and current students (including prospective returning students)! Please refer to the detailed information below to view your tuition bills and to make a tuition payment for the Spring 2010.

=== Details ===

1. Students can view their tuition bill and make a payment on-line or by the electronic banking service. During the registration period, follow the guideline # 4 to view an individual tuition bill and make a payment to a bank account(virtual account:1 account per student) issued to an individual student.

2. Payment Period : January 11, 2010 (Monday) ~ January 15 (Fridy)

※ Payment should be made during bank business hours (09:00~19:00).

3. Penalty for Overdue Tuition Payment

A. Related regulations :

- Academic Regulation: Article 87

- Tuition collection Regulation: Article 4

- Guidelines for admission enrollment and course registration procedure: Article 3

B.1)Students (Undergraduate, Master"s, and doctoral students receiving national scholarships) who failed to pay their tuition fees are subject to penalty for their overdue payment. (KAIST scholarship students and general scholarship students will be notified separately)

2)Probation period for the overdue payment :

- If students fill out the Statement of Reasons for Overdue Tuition Payment and submit the form within one week after the last day of the payment period,

the payment period can be extended for one more month.

(Signatures of their academic advisor and Department Chair are required)

- Meal allowance will not be paid to students until their tuition payment is made.

- students failing to meet the above dates and conditions will be dismissed from school in accordance with the KAIST Academic Regulations

4. Ways to view the tuition bills : Click the web address below to shortcut to the sites

A. Portal: To view and print out the bills which will be submitted to the affiliated institute or used for the scholarship application), connect to http://portal.kaist.ac.kr (Only for students who are paying the tuition on their own)

B. Home Page (Notice Board): To view tuition bills, connect to http://webcais.kaist.ac.kr/devsso/tuition/tuition_login.php (Students or parents/other individuals paying tuition fees)

5. Payment procedure (differ by student and classification)

A. [All undergraduates] / [Students receiving National Scholarships ] / [KAIST Scholarship students who"s paying their share of the payment]

After viewing their tuition bill, students submit the payment to their account issued by KAIST(virtual account) by Direct deposit, Internet Banking, Tele Banking, or CD/ATM from any banking institutes (any banks in Korea, Nong Hyup, Post offices, etc.)

B. KAIST Scholarship students (Master"s and doctoral) who is receiving the advisor"s share of the payment

A separate tuition bill and an official note will be sent directly to their advisor in the Department/ Division. A payment should be submitted to the account issued to the individual student (virtual account) or transferred to the Academic Registrar"s account from the Advisor"s(Lab) account.

C. General scholarship students (Master"s and doctoral)

A tuition bill and an official note will be sent to their affiliated institute.

The students can connect to Portal and pay their tuition fees or the affiliated institute can submit the payment to the individual student"s account issued by KAIST(virtual account).

When the tuition bills are paid by student"s parents or other individuals, the payment can be made to students" virtual account (Name of the Account Holder = Name of the student) issued by KAIST (via Direct Deposit, Interne Banking or Tele Banking, CD/ATM)

6. Matters to be attended to

A. The bank account issued to an individual student(virtual account) is available only for deposit (or payment) not for withdrawal.

※ When students make their payment, the payment amount has to be exactly the same as the due amount on their tuition bill. In case of a discrepancy, the payment will not be not be accepted.

B. The account is active only during the registration period, and can not be used otherwise.

C. The account remains active until a student (account holder) graduates and can be used to make payments by depositing or transferring money to the account each semester, after viewing his/her on-line tuition bill.

7. Student Activity Fees (Applicable to all master"s and doctoral students enrolled at Daejeon Campus)

Beginning Fall Semester 2006, student activity fees have been collected from all graduate students in accordance with the KAIST Graduate Student Council Regulation and the decision made by the Central Operation Committee.

■ Activity fees by student classification

A. National scholarship students : the student activity fee will be included in the amount due in their tuition bill (Only the activity fee will be charged for students who are exempted from paying their tuition)

B. KAIST Scholarship students : Same as National scholarship students

C. General Scholarship students : The new "student activity fee" item is added in their tuition bill (A separate bill which will be sent to the affiliation institute does not include the student activity fee item; therefore, in case the affiliated institute makes the tuition payment directly, students have to pay their student activity fee on their own after viewing and checking their on-line tuition bill for the charged amount of their student activity fee )

D. Foreign Students : Same as National scholarship students

■ Notification from Graduate Student Council

Beginning Fall Semester 2006, the population of students who are required to pay the student activity fees has been enlarged based on the KAIST Graduate Student Council Regulation and the decision made by the Central Operation Committee.

Chapter1, Article 3 : Members of the council are current graduate students(master"s and doctoral) enrolled at Daejeon campus except students on their leave of absence.

Chapter 1, Article 4, Section 2 : All council members are required to pay their student activity fee.
